Having Faith in Uncertainty

Taylor Skinner

I always thought I’d graduate in four years.

That was the plan, right? Four years, walk across the stage, degree in hand, and move on to the next chapter. But life—real life—doesn’t always follow our timelines. For me, it took five years to graduate. And at first, that extra year felt like failure.

I remember feeling disappointed in myself. Watching classmates finish “on time” while I was still grinding through assignments made me question my path. Was I falling behind? Was I doing something wrong? That season was filled with a lot of self-doubt, late-night prayers, and silent battles I didn’t always share.

But here’s what I didn’t see at the time: that extra year was a blessing in disguise.

It gave me space to grow—personally, spiritually, creatively. I met people who changed my life. I found new passions. I gained clarity about who I am and the type of work I want to do. And most importantly, I still graduated. The journey might’ve taken longer, but the destination was still mine.

Proverbs 3:5–6 (NIV)
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

Now, post-grad life has brought its own set of uncertainties. Moving back to my childhood town felt humbling. Job searching can be draining. Scrolling through LinkedIn while wondering, “Am I behind?” is a feeling I know all too well. But even in the waiting, even in the unknown—I’m learning to have faith.

Faith in the timing. Faith in the process. Faith in the God who brought me this far and won’t leave me now.

Another powerful part of my journey during this uncertain season has been starting my fitness journey. What began as a way to stay active and manage stress quickly turned into something much deeper—it became a source of confidence and self-love. With every workout, I felt stronger not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. It reminded me that progress doesn’t happen overnight, but with consistency and grace, transformation is possible. Pouring into myself has shown me just how connected our minds, bodies, and spirits really are.

Life is not just about sitting still and hoping things fall into place. It’s about trusting God while still doing the work—applying for the jobs, building the portfolio, moving your body, waking up each day and showing up even when it’s hard. I’ve seen firsthand how God can turn delays into divine redirection. How He can open doors that no one else can. And how He can use the seasons we dread to prepare us for the ones we’ve been praying for.

So if you’re in a season of uncertainty—whether it’s school, career, family/friends, or just life—know this: You are not behind. You are being prepared. Keep the faith. Keep putting in the work. And trust that God’s timing is never late.

Because even in uncertainty, He’s still in control.

Meet the Blogger!

Taylor Skinner

Hey y’all!

I’m Taylor Skinner— but you can call me TayTay, TSkins, TMoney, whatever feels right! I thought it’d be fun to start by sharing a little bit about myself. This way, we can connect better.

So here’s the rundown:

I was born in Aventura, Florida (March 6, 2001— yep, that makes me 23!), and yes, I’m a Pisces! But don’t worry, I promise I’m one of the cool ones not one of overly-emotional ones. I moved to Atlanta, Georgia at the start of my 6th grade year. I stayed there until I graduated high school. After that, I went to the University of Florida. There, I earned my Bachelor of Science in Advertising. I also pursued a minor in Innovative Strategy.

Oh, and I can’t forget to mention my little sister! I have a 7-year-old sibling (yes, we’re 17 years apart—wild, right?). She’s the light of my life, and even though there’s quite an age gap, we’re closer than ever. I love being a role model for her and sharing all the experiences that come with being her big sis!

Along the way, I became a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and started my own lash business in 2021 (which is doing really well, thank you for asking). My hobbies include going to Disney World (or really any amusement park). I also enjoy listening to music, traveling, and hanging out with friends and family. Also, I love reading and staying active with fitness. Its important to know I am also a huge animal lover. My dog Keigo is a 3-year-old bundle of energy and the cutest little guy ever.

Since a child I’ve always been a creative soul at heart. I’m all in when it comes to coming up with fresh ideas. I’m all in for designing things. I’m also all in for figuring out ways to make a brand or service stand out. My passion for creativity runs deep. There’s nothing more fulfilling to me than being part of something visually stunning and equally impactful. One of my big career dreams is to work with a high-end brand on marketing, branding, or even art direction. I want to help build iconic brands that not only look amazing but truly connect with people. I’m always exploring new ways to push boundaries and bring fresh perspectives into the mix.

Now, I won’t lie—my journey hasn’t always been smooth. I’ve had my fair share of ups and downs. These include losing my grandmother in 2020, failing classes, getting my heart broken, and losing friends along the way. But looking back, I honestly wouldn’t change a thing. All those tough moments have shaped me into who I am today. I’ve learned so much and grown stronger. As Tim S. Grover says, “Being relentless means demanding more of yourself than anyone else could ever demand of you. You know that every time you stop, you can still do more.” That quote really resonates with me because your hardest times teach you the most about yourself.

As a Christian, I truly believe that God’s plan is always greater than our own. Even when we don’t understand why certain things happen. I trust that everything in my life has a purpose. I am grateful for the strength and guidance I get through my faith. It’s a feeling that keeps me driven and focused as I step into the next chapter of my journey.

So cheers, and here’s to fresh starts and new beginnings! ✨
